The brown iron western D bit has a soft copper wire in the shape of a dog bone in its central part. The fixed rings protect the corners from pinching. This type of mouthpiece channels the horses and prevents the horse from passing the tongue over the bit.
The double joint locks into a straight jaw allowing effective control when forward pressure is too strong. As the horse returns to lighter contact, the bit softens.
