Pelham-type bits have the action of lowering the horse's head in order to encourage it to accept the contact of the bit and then to yield to it. Its Waterford type mouthpiece (multi-segment barrel) prevents the horse from leaning on the bit and then destroying the contact it has with the rider's hands. A Pelham Waterford bit is ideal for rider-horse couples who want to improve their approach to dressage while remaining light on contact.
